Instructions
  1. Combine the egg whites, sugar, water, cream of tartar and corn syrup in top of a double boiler over rapidly boiling water.
  2. Beat with a hand mixer constantly for about seven minutes or until the mixture holds up in peaks.
  3. Remove from the heat, add vanilla, and beat until cool and thick enough to spread.
  4. This should make enough for the top and sides of two 8-inch layers.
Recipe Notes

Dad's favorite birthday cake when I was growing up was chocolate cake with seafoam frosting.
