  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Line jelly roll pan with foil and spray with non-stick spray.
  3. Lay crackers out flat on foil.
  4. Melt sugar and butter until foamy: about three minutes.
  5. Continue to cook until the sugar is absolutely dissolved and butter and sugar no longer separate.
  6. Pour mixture over crackers and spread to coat.
  7. Bake ten minutes in oven.
  8. Remove from oven.
  9. While hot, sprinkle with chocolate chips, let soften and melt, then spread.
  10. Sprinkle with nuts, if desired.
  11. Refrigerate until hardened.
  12. Break into pieces like peanut brittle.

Marie and I made these and they came out sticky instead of crisp. The next time I made them, I cooked the sugar and butter longer until well combined and caramelized (as noted above in the recipe), and it worked much better. Also made half without chocolate, and they were good, too.
