  1. Prep your mushrooms (one little plastic container is just right) ...
  2. ...peppers...
  3. ...onions...
  4. ...bacon...
  5. (Mmm. Bacon. For information on microwaving bacon, go here.)
  6. ...garlic...
  7. ...and pop them in a 5- or 6-quart crock-pot (lined with a crock-pot liner to make clean up easy). Stir them up.
  8. Sprinkle with tapioca.
  9. Place chicken on top of the mixture in the crock-pot.
  10. Pour in the broth. You can use chicken bouillon made with one bouillon cube and a cup of boiling water.
  11. Add the wine.
  12. Cover; cook on high-heat setting 3 to 3½ hours or low-heat setting 6 to 7 hours. Don't cook more than this: the chicken can dry out.
  13. For the last bit of the cooking time, prep the broccoli into small florets. Put on top of the cooked chicken mixture.
  14. Add the cream.
  15. Prep the basil. Pick a half cup's worth of leaves...
  16. ...stack them...
  17. ..roll them up...
  18. ...and snip into thin strips into the chicken broccoli mixture.
  19. Stir all together.
  20. If using the low-heat setting, turn it to the high-heat setting. Cover and cook 30 minutes more.
  21. Optionally, sprinkle the servings with the remaining basil and Parmesan cheese.
Recipe Notes

Made this with broccoli again (and changed the written recipe to reflect this) and skinless boneless thighs. It's very good with a nice sauce, but it would be easy to overcook this: really just cook it for the amount of time written. And when the broccoli is put in at the end, don't cook it longer than needed to make the broccoli tender. Served it over white rice. Well received.

Made with bone-in thighs: try with boneless and skinless next time to avoid the cartilage-in-the-food issue. This would be nice over something more absorbent than orzo, like rice or couscous. I made it with broccoli and 8 frozen basil cubes in the absence of fresh.
