  1. Preheat the oven to 375˚F.
  2. In a large pot, heat the butter and milk until the butter is melted.
  3. Remove the pot from the heat and add the nuts and raisins.
  4. Mix the dry ingredients and add them to the pot. Mix the dough well and let it stand 15 to 20 minutes.
  5. Form the dough into small balls (1-inch in diameter), and bake on ungreased pans for 15 to 18 minutes.
  6. Beat together the frosting ingredients.
  7. Frost while the cookies are still slightly warm.
Recipe Notes

This is Great Grandma Martone's recipe. I typically double this batch (often having to make more later). Sometimes I use frozen orange juice concentrate as the liquid for the frosting to up the flavor. Don't be tempted to make these without the frosting, or risk baking stones. The frosting keeps them moist. They freeze well in single layers in ziplock bags.

Made a double batch of cookies, triple batch of frosting.

* 1 tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice = 1½ teaspoons cinnamon, ¾ teaspoon nutmeg, 3/8 teaspoon ginger and 3/8 teaspoon cloves.
