Instructions
- Make yourself some applesauce.
- You can make the apple butter out of the applesauce just as it is, or you can use applesauce that has been drained of its juice for making apple jelly.
- If you are using drained applesauce, run it through the food mill so it is clean of its skins and cores.
- Put the sauce (drained or undrained) in a crockpot (with a crockpot liner to keep cleanup easy). Set it on low and cook it as long as possible: I've done it 10-12 hours. In the last few hours, you can take the lid off to let some water steam off.
- Whenever you feel like it, add some brown sugar to taste (maybe start with a half cup or so)...
- ...and some cloves to taste. I start with a healthy sprinkle and ooch up.
- Jar it up.
Recipe Notes
September 2015
This is very easy and everyone loves it. If you don't add too much sugar, you don't even feel too bad eating it straight out of the jar. It's great to make in conjunction with a jelly making project.
